In September, Lori Lightfood’s progressive administration in Chicago prompted one of the richest men in America to set course for Florida. As if that weren’t enough, in addition to landing in the state governed by Ron DeSantis, he is donating more than $100 million to elect Republicans in the midterm elections.

He is Ken Griffin, CEO of Citadel, who has a net worth of $30 billion and, according to Bloomberg, is ranked among the 50 richest men on the planet.

According to reports, the millionaire made that decision after a senior colleague was robbed at gunpoint during a coffee shop in Chicago, while another was attacked unprovoked on the street.

As a result, Griffin began with small steps and then completed his transition to Florida. He started by buying property in Miami, then moved his personal fortune there, and finally announced that Citadel, which manages $57 billion in assets, would also move to Florida.

“If people aren’t safe here, they’re not going to live here. I’ve had multiple colleagues mugged at gunpoint. I’ve had a colleague stabbed on the way to work. Countless issues of burglary. I mean, that’s a really difficult backdrop with which to draw talent to your city from,” Griffin told the Wall Street Journal.

In relation to his remarks, it is necessary to point out that, under the leadership of Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D-IL), Chicago recorded 797 homicides in 2021, the highest of any U.S. city.

More than 100 million to elect Republicans for Congress

According to Open Secrets, Griffin donated more than $100 million in greenbacks since the 2022 cycle began. Specifically, he contributed more than $48 million to Republicans in federal races, including $18.5 million in contributions to the Congressional Leadership Fund, a Republican Super PAC.

In addition, the businessman tried, with more than $50 million, to make Richard Irvin the next governor of Illinois. However, the latter was defeated in the Republican primary by Darren Bailey.
