Ron DeSantis’ campaign released a new video Monday featuring his wife, Casey DeSantis. In the spot, Florida’s first lady talks about what the governor is like in his private life.
Casey recalls the Republican’s childhood and youth. She also explains DeSantis’ commitment to American society and the defense of freedom. But she goes further, and tells how he acted when she faced cancer.
“If you really want to know who Ron DeSantis is (…) when I was diagnosed with cancer and I was battling for my life, he was the father who took care of my kids when I couldn’t. He was there to pick me up when I literally couldn’t stand up,” Casey DeSantis says in the video.
“He was there to fight for me when I didn’t have the strength to fight for myself. That’s Ron DeSantis,” she added.
He also highlights Ron DeSantis’ time in the Navy. “He’s a kid who grew up in Florida working hard, paying his way through school, and volunteered to serve in the Navy and was stationed in Iraq. He’s the man I fell in love with from the very moment we met,” she says.

The campaign video comes at a time when DeSantis is leading the race in Florida. Last week a poll, conducted by Spectrum News/Siena College, shows Republican growth in Florida.
According to the poll, FL Gov. Ron DeSantis leads the race against his Democratic opponent, Rep. Charlie Crist, 49% to 41%.
