2022 is not turning out to be a great year for Charlie Crist. He resigned his seat in the House of Representatives to run against Ron DeSantis for governor, but things did not go as he had hoped. He was defeated in the debate and polls put him more than ten points behind his opponent. As if that were not enough, a group of his former colleagues published a letter in support of Republican governor Ron DeSantis.

The message was signed by a number of prominent officials, including George LeMieux, Crist’s former chief of staff; Jeff Kottcamp, Crist’s former deputy governor; Bill McCollum, former attorney general; and Charles Bronson, former commissioner of agriculture.

“Together, we have known Charlie in virtually all phases of his career and public life. We are well-qualified to endorse in the Florida Governor’s race because we have significant experience in public service to the state of Florida. The choice this November could not be more clear: we unanimously endorse Governor Ron DeSantis for re-election,” the officials began.

“Gov. DeSantis delivered for Florida,” letter from Charlie Crist’s former colleagues

“Governor DeSantis has delivered for Florida. He has led our state with courage and conviction. He has demonstrated his ability to lead us through difficult times. We stand with Governor DeSantis because the stakes are too high. We urge Florida to re-elect Ron DeSantis as our Governor,” Charlie Crist’s former colleagues concluded about the election.

The remaining signatories to the letter were Stephanie Kopelousos, Dane Eagle, Jason Gonzales, Diane Moulton Adams, Torey Alston, Hannak Sumner Causseaux, Brett Cypers, Michaelle Dennard, Pablo Diaz, Arlene DiBenigno, Townson Fraser, Ken Granger, Mike Hanna, Jim Kallinger, James McFaddin, David Mica Jr, Vivian Myrtetus, Dan Olson, Andrew Palmer, Carrie Patrick, Kirk Pepper, Amanda Prater, Bret Prater, Jim Rimes, Scott Ross, Maryann Smith, Michael Sole, Eileen Stuart, Carolin Timmann, Greg Ungru and Mitchell Wertheimer.

According to the Real Clear Politics polling average, DeSantis leads Crist by 11.2% heading into the November 8 election. The poll is proof of DeSantis’ popularity in the state, considering that in 2018 he won the state by a mere 0.4% difference.
