AS PART of their campaign against Ron DeSantis, Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist and running mate, radical leftist Karla Hernández, have made a series of unfortunate statements, including the occasional lie, and multiple flirtations with Cuba’s communist regime. The Republican governor took a moment during a press conference to take apart the “insulting” narratives of his opponents.

When asked by a reporter for his opinion on the Crist campaign’s argument accusing DeSantis of pursuing an “anti-immigration” agenda that would affect Cuban migrants, the Republican governor responded that the Democratic challenger’s arguments are “bizarre” and represent an “insult” to the Cuban community.

“I just think it’s bizarre that they’re trying to equate people that fled communism from Cuba under things like the Cuban Adjustment Act & Pedro Pan to someone running drugs across the southern border,” DeSantis said. “How dare they make that comparison?”

The local leader went on to say that both Charlie Crist and Karla Hernandez-Mats strongly opposed the decision to keep schools open during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was, in his view, one of the most “consequential” in the country. Had it gone their way, DeSantis said, Florida’s children would have suffered “irreparable damage” in their upbringing.

“That alone is disqualifying,” the governor continued. “When you’re wrong on one of the most important issues that this country has had to face over the last few years. And the people who cheerleaded for school closure were wrong”

He later referred to pro-Castro comments made by Hernandez-Mats in the past, in which he said the Cuban people mourned the death of Fidel Castro.

“When you’re putting out tweets about Castro’s death, that he’s just a political leader that people in Cuba are mourning, that’s a disgrace,” DeSantis stressed. “That’s an insult to the people in this community who had to flee that tyranny. It’s an insult to the people that have seen that island destroyed.”

Crist and Hernandez’s anti-DeSantis campaign.

The Democratic campaign seems to have established a political strategy of attacking the Republican governor, even by lying.

Recently, a reporter had to interrupt Hernandez-Mats for lying on air during an interview, saying that DeSantis’ education policies had “defunded” public schools.

The same reporter had already contradicted Crist in an interview, when the former governor said the Parental Rights in Education Act prohibited public institutions from hiring counselors to address sexuality issues among students.

But Crist and Hernandez-Mats’ strategy appears to be backfiring on their aspirations. According to the most recent polls, DeSantis is ahead of his Democratic challengers and amassing a majority vote intention.
