With Flights to Martha’s Vineyard, Ron DeSantis Keeps his Promise to Send Migrants to Sanctuary Cities

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis made good on his promise to send illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities as a kind of protest after the inaction of Joe Biden’s administration to address and confront the immigration crisis.

DeSantis said Thursday, September 15th, that he sent undocumented migrants by plane to Massachusetts: “We are not a sanctuary state” he said.

“In Florida, we take what is happening at the southern border seriously,” he added.

The governor sent at least 50 illegal migrants, mostly Venezuelans, to Martha’s Vineyard, an island off the coast of Massachusetts.

DeSantis in his speech added to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s decision to send busloads of migrants to sanctuary cities where, in theory, they would be welcomed.

The governor said it is better for undocumented immigrants to be able to go to a sanctuary jurisdiction so Florida is going to help them have transportation to do so.

DeSantis added in the same tone that there are states like Massachusetts, New York and California that will provide “greener pastures”.

The migrants were sent from Texas by order of DeSantis and arrived by surprise this Wednesday at the Martha’s Vineyard airport.

With this decision, DeSantis joins Greg Abbott (Texas), and Doug Ducey (Arizona), and adds Martha’s Vineyard to the list of sanctuary cities to which they are sending migrants such as Washington DC, New York and Chicago.

Nearly 5 million illegal migrants crossed into the U.S. in the first year and a half of Joe Biden’s presidency, according to a report by the Federation for American Immigration Reform. Despite the massive influx of people crossing into the country, top White House officials such as VP Kamala Harris have said the border is secure.

DeSantis doesn’t make it a surprise, he had already warned about it

Ron DeSantis had already warned migrants released by the Biden Administration not to travel to Florida; this after some of those who arrived by bus in DC exposed their intentions to travel to Miami.

“Do not come,” DeSantis warned.

“To those who have entered the country illegally, fair warning: do not come to Florida. Life will not be easy for you, because we are obligated to uphold the immigration laws of this country, even if our federal government and other states won’t,” the Florida Governor’s Executive Office told Fox News Digital in a statement.

“There is a legal process to obtain full American citizenship, which is an essential part of the promise of America. In Florida, we will uphold the law,” the statement concluded.

Also, in November 2021, Florida’s governor had warned Biden that if he continued to send illegal migrants to his state he would return them to other states, or to Delaware, the president’s home state.
