MOST of Spotify’s songs played in the summer of 2022 are Spanish-language songs, according to a summer playlist released by the platform which features the top 20 songs that listeners replayed between May 29 and August 29 globally.

The top Spanish song was Me Porto Bonito, released by singer Bad Bunny in collaboration with Chencho Corleone, which ranked in third place. In total, seven Bad Bunny songs reached the top-20, all of them belonging to his latest album Un Verano Sin Ti. Other Hispanic artists on the list include Karol G, Shakira, Rauw Alejandro and Jhay Cortez.

“We’ve been keeping an eye on this season’s charts and these are the songs you streamed the most this summer,” it was the message in which the platform announced the listing.

The most listened music track over the summer on Spotify was As It Was by Harry Styles.

“In the U.S., Bad Bunny, Corleone, Alejandro and Bomba Estéro also had some of the highest-streaming songs this summer,” USA Today detailed.

Bad Bunny not only tops Spotify

Bad Bunny’s triumph should come as no surprise. The singer has managed to top the sales charts in the music industry.

“After two years of hiatus in the music industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the biggest popular artists returned to the scene with new releases, among them Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Harry Styles, Adele and BTS. However, none of them have been able to surpass the Latin American phenomenon that has revolutionized the industry: Puerto Rico’s Bad Bunny,” reads a previous El American report from July.

According to a tracking of Bloomberg‘s Pop Star Power Rankings, the Puerto Rican’s latest album, Un Verano Sin Ti, has been the best-selling (by far) and most played album on major streaming platforms, YouTube and Spotify.

According to estimates, since its release on May 6, his new album has sold more than 1.4 million copies. In that way, it has accumulated nearly 3 billion plays on Spotify and about 1.4 billion views on YouTube.
