The Idiocy of the Week: The New York Times Calls Light-Skinned Latinos Racist

La idiotez de la semana: New York Times llama racistas a los latinos de piel clara

Leer en Español

It’s not the first time an article from The New York Times has earned a place in El American’s Idiocy of the Week. This time, they outdo themselves by clarifying that Latinos can also be racist if they are light-skinned.

In Miriam Jordan’s piece for The New York Times entitled “Echoes of Latin American Racism Reverberate in the US“, the newspaper focuses on the Hispanic community to explain that there are also racist Latinos.

Until now, Latinos were treated by the Democrats and their media as a homogenous minority, and they used the same vote-catching techniques with them as they did with the African-American community, that is to say, they bet everything on patronising them and encouraging victimhood.

Now that the left realises that the trick is not working for them with the Latino community, it is time to pick up the reel and take away some of the privileges they have been enjoying until now under the umbrella of the “latinx” label.

At last the left admits that not all Latinos are the same, and they have taken on the task of explaining that a Cuban is not the same as a Mexican, a Venezuelan or an Argentinian.

What a coincidence that progressivism is starting to worry about Latino nuances now that all the polls and elections show that their vote is increasingly leaning towards Republicans.

But the left does not seem to admit this in order to recognise the cultural diversity of different countries or individuals, but to point out that some Latinos are racist. How coincidental and convenient that it is precisely those of lighter complexion who do not deserve the respect of tolerant leftists.

According to the article, “people with lighter skin have remained at the top of the socioeconomic hierarchy, while those with darker skin, whether Indigenous or Black, often tend to be poorer and to be shut out of elite social and political circles.”

Translated and interpreted in progressive language, this means that the left declares that it is open season on some Latinos – we suspect those who vote Republican – and it is no longer considered racist to insult them, although paradoxically it is done by calling them racists.

The New York Times and the shift in Democratic strategy with Latinos

From what can be sensed from this article and other recent moves, the left is mobilising to refine and readjust its strategy with Latinos.

Despite the article’s almost surgical precision in laying out the racism related to the different skin tones of Hispanics, they then use the broad brush approach when it comes to giving examples to reinforce their message.

They talk about the case of racist statements towards other Latinos by Nury Martinez, a member of the LA City Council, who had to resign after her insults were leaked. But they conveniently omit that the “Hispanic leader” was from the Democratic Party, and that her insults were directed at campaign organisers whom she blamed for highlighting the differences between Latinos instead of presenting them as a unified front.

The article includes a statement from one of those affected, saying that “those comments going public just confirmed that the oppression and discrimination hasn’t ended. I had the same feeling as when Donald Trump became president. Racism became more public and visible.”

The New York Times manages to explain in its elaborate article – in which not once Democrats are mentioned – that the racist insults of a Democrat who wanted to continue to manage Latinos as a bloc were actually Trump’s fault. Impressive!

Just when the Democratic Party comes under fire for Hispanics in LA, The New York Times comes to the rescue to blame it all on some light-skinned Hispanics’ racism, without mentioning that they are Democrats, and letting it slip that it must be down to those racist Trumpist Hispanics.
