Just under four years ago, Stacy Abrams first sought the Georgia governorship and lost to Brian Kemp by some 50,000 votes. However, the Democrat refused for years to accept the outcome, charging “voter suppression” and that the election was “stolen from the voters.” A month away from a new attempt and against the same opponent, Justice reaffirmed his defeat in 2018.

Through the organization Abrams founded under the name Fair Fight Action, the former local representative challenged the state in court on several election laws. However, Judge Steven Jones dismissed her case in its entirety.

“Although Georgia’s election system is not perfect, the challenged practices violate neither the constitution nor the Voting Rights Act,” the magistrate wrote in a 288-page ruling.

Governor Kemp, who has been leading comfortably in the polls for several months, celebrated the decision and did not miss the opportunity to attack his opponent.

“Stacey Abrams and her group lost on every single count in that ruling Friday. Sad that since day one, she’s used this whole process to line her pockets, sow distrust in Democratic institutions, and build her celebrity status. And using the legal system for her own political gain, quite honestly,” the republican said.

“Thankfully, [Northern District of Georgia] Judge [Steven] Jones made it clear to all Georgians and people around the country that in our state, it’s easy to vote and hard to cheat. And look, she’s spinning that narrative, Shannon. I mean, we just had record turnout in our primaries, not only in the Republican primary, but also in the Democratic primary,” the governor added.

As the Real Clear Politics polling average shows, Kemp would outperform Abrams by 6.6%, up nearly 5% from 2018.
