It is still unclear whether the Chinese coronavirus came out of the Wuhan lab or whether it all originated in an exotic animal market, but more and more evidence points to the former. What is abundantly clear is that the mainstream media was determined, for a year, to dismiss the idea that the virus came out of the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
What we see today is that, in a matter of days, the idea that the coronavirus came out of a Wuhan lab went from being a conspiracy theory and racist lunacy to being on the front pages of the mainstream media as a serious hypothesis and one to which the United States should give its full attention.
The Washington Post referred to the idea as a “conspiracy theory.” CNN talked about a theory out of a “comic book” and gave voice to the Chinese Communist Party saying it was a Republican strategy to win the presidency. BBC News also spoke of a “conspiracy theory” and even quoted China as suggesting that the virus was created by the U.S.
Now, why for months, even when then President Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo were talking about evidence supporting that theory, and U.S. was known to be investigating along those lines, the mainstream media did not just ignore the possibility, but – even worse – engaged in ridiculing anyone who mentioned it: crazy Republicans, racists, stop Asian hate, and so on
There are many possible reasons for the media’s behavior. The highest level person talking about the possibility of the origin in the Wuhan lab was President Trump himself, whom they despise with all their might. There also seems to be a lot of capital from China trying to hide what really happened. And surely it was also influenced by Dr. Anthony Fauci, whom some have declared a wise person and incapable of ever being wrong, saying that there was no scientific evidence that the virus had come out of a lab.
The media was busy blaming Trump for all the misfortunes. For months all we saw in the news was journalists accusing the then president of thousands of deaths and pointing fingers at Republicans for making up crazy, racist theories to supposedly divert attention away from the administration’s handling of it. The mainstream media was incapable of even considering the hypothesis raised by Trump and, instead of doing their job and investigating, they were dedicated to branding the president and the Secretary of State as racists.
In recent days the world has learned that, according to a State Department report, several Chinese researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology became ill in the fall of 2019 and needed hospital care, that happened before the first official case of coronavirus reported in China. Dr. Fauci has changed his mind and now says he is not convinced that Covid-19 developed naturally. In addition, it has been made public that in late 2020 the State Department initiated an investigation to try to determine whether the virus came out of the Wuhan lab, but this spring the Biden administration ordered that investigation closed.
In May 2020, Pompeo stated that there was a “significant amount of evidence” to support the claim that the virus could have originated at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. So far we know nothing regarding that evidence and, on that note, the news that there was an investigation but it was cancelled by the Biden administration is discouraging.
Clearly, not only Americans, but the whole world deserves to know the truth. We are talking about the possibility that a virus that has killed millions of people came out of the Wuhan lab. And there are also doubts about the relationship of that laboratory with the Chinese regime, always an enemy of the U.S. and the West. The whole world is looking to the American government to carry out the necessary investigation.
But here there is another issue that cannot be ignored. Let it be clear to everyone that most of the mainstream media have no commitment to the truth. For a year they singled out and shamed anyone who dared to say what they now – in the face of the weight of evidence – put on their front pages.
The next time the media labels a person or idea as crazy or conspiratorial, don’t be fooled again and remember that in a matter of days they went from saying that the idea that the coronavirus came out of a lab was a “conspiracy theory that has already been debunked” to publishing on their front pages that it is a real possibility.
