DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas acknowledged in an interview that from January 21 to date, at least 836,000 undocumented immigrants have been released. That number is higher than the population of Washington D.C. or North Dakota.

In 2021, there were 1.7 million border patrol encounters with undocumented immigrants, and so far in 2022, there have been 1.06 million reported encounters. Despite the numbers indicating that the issue is of increasing concern, the secretary has falsely said that the administration “effectively managed” the Biden border crisis.

This weekend, Mayorkas was interviewed on Fox News, and when asked if it is a goal of the Biden administration to reduce the number of migrants, the secretary said their goal is to make sure “that we have safe, legal, and orderly pathways for individuals to be able to access our legal system, we are against irregular migration.”

Mayorkas also assured that this is the first time since 2011 that an administration has ordered new agents for the border patrol, adding that since September 2021, they have been preparing for the eventual end of Title 42. However, considering that this year alone the same population as North Dakota has illegally entered the country, it does not appear that border authorities and the Biden DHS are prepared for the immigration surge that will come if Title 42 is lifted; which could cause approximately 18,000 daily illegal crossings.

Regarding Mayorkas’ claims that he has “effectively managed” the situation at the border, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) told El American that it “is a complete lie. The Biden administration, led by Secretary Mayorkas, has created a completely open border where so many drugs are coming across our border now that 105,000 people died of drug overdose this last year. We have terrorists that have come across the border, we know terrorists have come across the border. So, the Biden administration and Secretary Mayorkas have made a decision that we will not have a border under this president…”

Mayorkas was also asked if he believes it is good for America to allow illegal immigrants. The secretary responded that immigrants make a request according to our laws, and if they do not comply with the laws and the immigration judge so determines they are expelled.

Regarding the growing number of illegal immigrants, Rep. Tom McClintock said that “it’s a deliberate policy of the Biden administration to flood our nation with illegal immigrants. They’ve already released 836,000 into this country. That’s larger than the population of the state of North Dakota.”

Secretary Mayorkas was also questioned about whether he believes releasing such a number of migrants attracts more immigration, to which he responded that what achieves that effect of attracting more immigrants is the “disinformation” spread by the cartels to individuals in different countries about “our laws and policies.”

On the “disinformation” mentioned by Secretary Mayorkas and the immigrants released to date, Jorge Bonilla, Director of MRC Latino, told El American the following: “It is important that Mayorkas disclose the number, what we see is a wide-open border, a government with no interest in protecting it, and a press bent on protecting the decaying Biden regime instead of asking hard questions. The news is even worse in light of the creation of the DGB, the ‘Ministry of Truth’ attached to the agency under Mayorkas. They are incapable of doing their job, protecting the border, but pretend to take interference in freedom of speech to say what is truth and what is “disinformation.”

Mayorkas has also pointed out that there is a lot of disinformation coming from Russia, China, Iran and the cartels that change how laws are perceived. On this issue, El American consulted Joseph Humire, executive director of the Center for a Secure Free Society, who is an expert on counterterrorism. “I’m sure there is disinformation from Venezuela, Russia, Iran and China about our border crisis, but that does not excuse the misguided policies of President Biden’s administration. By releasing over 836,000 illegals and potentially lifting Title 42 what the Biden administration is doing is throwing gasoline on the fire to an unprecedented crisis in the U.S.,” Humire said.

We also consulted Alfonso Aguilar, former head of the U.S. Citizenship Office and President of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, about the Secretary’s recent statements and the chaos we are seeing at the border. His opinion is that the Secretary should resign as he is in “dereliction of duty”:

“The administration does not have the legal authority to give “parole” to hundreds of thousands of migrants to enter the country. In this regard, Secretary Mayorkas is in full dereliction of duty. Immigration law is very clear that the Department of Homeland Security must hold people who arrive irregularly at the border in detention and, if they cannot do so due to lack of capacity, the law even mentions that they must be sent to Mexico. It seems to me that it is time for Mayorkas to resign and, if he doesn’t, I think a Republican House should seriously consider starting an impeachment process against him,” said Aguilar.
