President Joe Biden criticized Tuesday those who, according to him, seek power against those who bet on unity hours after President Donald Trump accused the government of political persecution against him for registering one of his mansions.

Biden’s statements were made at an event where he signed a bill to manufacture microchips in the United States.

Although he made no direct reference to Trump, the statements come amid the uproar over Monday’s search of Mar-a-Lago, the former president’s mansion in Palm Beach, in southeast Florida, by the FBI, which was looking for documents.

In his appearance, Biden, alluding to Republicans, criticized those who seek division instead of unity and those who tear down rather than build up.

Numerous members of the Republican Party have come out in recent hours in defense of Trump and have called the event political persecution.

Among them, was Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who, in a powerful video, said that events like this only happen in countries like Nicaragua.

“The one thing we have never had is there’s never been a country where people who take power, like becoming president, now use that power to persecute their past or future political opponents,” he said.
