Vice President Kamala Harris said in a recent interview that the border “is secure,” however, the number of illegal migrants who have escaped from authorities and are free in the country without documentation exceeds half a million people so far this year.

More than 500,000 illegal migrants managed to sneak into the country without being apprehended by Border Patrol officials. Their whereabouts are unknown, as well as whether —within that large group— they are gang members, traffickers, or petty criminals with criminal records.

A report by Fox News reporter Bill Melugin showed how in just 45 minutes in a border area of Arizona, at least 12 illegal migrants entered the country without being apprehended. This small group adds to the estimated 500,000 who have not been arrested since the beginning of the year.

The number of migrant encounters at the southern border exceeded two million this fiscal year, surpassing last year’s already historic 1.7 million apprehensions; however, those figures do not include the hundreds of thousands of people who have escaped from the Border Patrol and for whom no record exists.

Senior Department of Homeland Security sources told Fox News that there had been an average of more than 55,000 “gotaways” per month. That number does not consider the number of illegal migrants who have outrun Border Patrol agents and have not been detected by cameras and drones deployed at the border.

“That number is in addition to the 389,155 known gotaways that DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas previously testified there were in all of FY21. The ‘known gotaways’ by themselves, therefore, means that there have been approximately 900,000 known gotaways since the beginning of FY21 (including four months before President Biden took office), which is equivalent to a population bigger than the city of San Francisco sneaking across the border,” Fox News points out.

Last September 5th, U.S. Customs, and Border Protection reported arresting more than two dozen gang members and migrants with criminal records at the southern border of the U.S.

So far this fiscal year, agents have apprehended 627 gang members compared to 348 in FY2021 and 363 in FY2020. Meanwhile, the Border Patrol has arrested 9,381 criminal migrants, compared to 10,763 last fiscal year and 2,438 in FY 2020.

In addition to escapes, the Biden administration releases thousands of inadmissible migrants into the U.S.

Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz admitted that the Biden administration is releasing aliens who would not usually be admissible to the country and acknowledged that Democratic immigration policies are driving mass migration because migrants see no consequences for entering the country in violation of the law.

Ortiz’s statements came under oath following a lawsuit filed by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody against the Department of Homeland Security and other border agencies.

Florida’s attorney general accuses the Biden administration of having only one solution to the increase of illegal immigrants in the country: mass releases.
