‘The Border Is Not Secure’: Democrat Henry Cuellar Dismisses VP Kamala Harris

Despite Kamala Harris’ repeated claims that the southern border is “secure,” data from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shows the exact opposite. According to the September report, the border surpassed its yearly record of border crossings.

Republicans have highlighted the border situation since the beginning of the Biden administration, but some Democrats acknowledge the crisis. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) spoke with Fox News and did not hesitate to say that the border “is not secure”.

“First of all, no, the border is not secure. When you have 1.7 million individuals last year, and now another 2.7, that’s over 4.5 million individuals encounter at the border, plus the — if you add the getaways, that’s going to be over 5 million individuals in just two years. No, the border is secure — it’s not secured and we’ve got to make sure that we have repercussions there.” said the legislator, considered one of the few moderate Democrats in the House of Representatives.

Cuellar’s statements come after fiscal year 2022 ended with the highest number of illegal alien encounters at the southern border in DHS history. In total, 2,378,944 were counted. In addition, more terrorists or suspected terrorists were apprehended (98) than in the previous five years combined (26) and had more immigrant fatalities (856) than in any other year.

Kamala Harris’ so-called border security

In September of this year, Harris decided to completely disregard reality and, in an interview with “Meet the Press,” talked about southern border security.

“The border is secure, but we also have a broken immigration system, in particular, over the last four years before we came in, and it needs to be fixed,” the vice president said at the time.
